Syria downs Turkish F-4 Phantom plane on June 22 2012, F-4 photos
ANKARA, Turkey: The F-4 Phantom plane, that disappeared from radars on Friday, June 22, 2012, was shot down by Syria.
After Syrian military confirmed bringing down a jet "flying over Syrian territorial waters", Turkey's leader President Abdullah Gul promised to take “necessary actions” against Damask on Saturday, while admitting possible mistake from Turkish pilots.
Since the unarmed F-4 went down in the Mediterranean Sea near Latakia, Syria, two pilots have been searched for.
Turkey is a NATO member, and the accident may become a carte blanche for starting military actions against long-blamed Syrian regime.
